How it works

Nobody gets knocked out. You are here to play, so you play all afternoon.

You are seeded by level

We sort everyone who signs up into groups of similar strength, using your rating if you have one and your own description of your game if you do not. Nobody spends the afternoon losing 11-2.

Round robin, not knockout

Groups of five, and you play all four of the others, best of five games to 11. Lose your first match and it changes nothing: you still have the rest of your group to play.

Then we redraw and go again

Once the groups finish we sort everyone by how the first round went and run a fresh round robin. Four more matches, winners in a harder group, everyone else in a group that fits them, and everybody plays until 5:00 PM.

Come alone, that is normal

Most people sign up on their own. You are given opponents, a table and a schedule, so there is nothing to organise and nobody to bring.

What it costs

Pay at the door on the night, cash or card. Nothing to pay to sign up.

Club members

$10
per league night

The member rate, same as clinics. Not a member yet? Membership starts at $75 a month.

Everyone else

$20
per league night

No membership needed and no commitment. Come for one Saturday and see whether it is for you.

Bring your own bat if you have one. We have bats to lend if you do not, and balls are on us.

Twenty places a night, and it takes about thirty seconds.

Tell us your name, your level and which Saturday you are starting. That is all we need to draw the groups.

  1. Fill in the form, about thirty seconds.
  2. We put you in a group of players your own standard.
  3. Turn up at 2:00 PM with $10 if you are a member, $20 if you are not.

See the announcement on Instagram and follow the club for the weekly draw.

No account needed and nothing to pay online. We use your details for league nights and nothing else. Your group and your opponents go up on the draw page the day before, and your results go on the season standings.

You are on the table

Every night you play and every match you win puts points on the season standings.

Points for turning up, not just winning

Three points for playing the night, two for every match you win, three more for winning your group. The player who comes every Saturday and wins half their matches finishes above the one who comes twice and wins them all.

Your best eight nights count

The season runs from September 26 to December 19 and only your best eight nights go on the table, so a holiday or a bad Saturday does not knock you out of the running.

Everyone is scored the same

Because groups are by level, winning the beginners group scores exactly what winning the top group scores. You are measured against players your own standard, not against the strongest player in the club.

The table resets in December

Season one runs to December 19, then everyone starts level again. Nobody ends up so far back that there is no point turning up in November.

Questions

I have never played in anything competitive. Is this for me?

Yes. The whole point of grouping by level is that a first timer plays other first timers. If you can rally, you can play league night.

What if I lose my first match?

You play the next one. There is no knockout and no elimination at any point in the afternoon, so a bad start costs you nothing but the match.

Do I have to come every week?

No. Sign up for the weeks you want. Tick the box on the form and we will text you each Thursday, so saying no is one word.

How long does it run?

Play starts at 2:00 PM and runs to about 5:00 PM, and you are playing for essentially all of it. The hall is open until 6:00 PM on Saturdays if you want to keep going after.

Can juniors play?

Yes. Juniors are welcome and are seeded by level like everyone else. Under 13s should have a parent at the club.

What if I turn up without signing up?

We will fit you in if there is room, but a night is capped at twenty players and the groups are drawn the day before. Signing up is what guarantees you a place.
